The Altamont Indians will square off against the Vandalia Vandals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Altamont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Vandalia will be up against a hot Altamont squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand Brownstown/St. Elmo a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Kade Milleville's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dyson Wagner and Brayden Elam did most of the damage at the plate: Wagner went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Elam scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Elam a new career-high. Keegan Schultz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Altamont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Vandalia didn't have quite enough to beat Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City on Monday and fell 6-4.
Vandalia also got a good showing from Brady Elder, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Brock Willenborg was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Those hits were his first of the season.
Altamont's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Vandalia, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Altamont has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Vandalia struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Altamont took their win against Vandalia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-11 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Vandals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
