The Rudder Rangers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Randle Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rudder has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Randle will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Friday, Rudder suffered a rough 46-25 loss at the hands of Brenham.
Meanwhile, Randle can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They claimed a resounding 70-19 victory over Lamar Consolidated at home. Given Randle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Lamar Consolidated is ranked 713th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Randle found their leader in underclassman Landen Callis-Williams, who rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also caught a touchdown. Callis-Williams was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards. Sincere Timpson was another key contributor, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Rudder's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Brenham, Lake Creek, and Huntsville. As for Randle, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Rudder took a serious blow against Randle when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 53-21. Will Rudder have more luck at home instead of on the road?
