The Lawrence County Bulldogs will square off against the Martin County Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Martin County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Lawrence County, who comes in off a win.
Lawrence County barely beat Belfry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Pirates a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.
The result came thanks to Braxton Davis's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Gray Derifield was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Caudill, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Martin County came up short against Magoffin County on Tuesday, falling 13-7.
Damian Cheek was cooking despite his team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Lemaster, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run.
Lawrence County pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Martin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
Everything went Lawrence County's way against Martin County in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, as Lawrence County made off with a 13-2 win. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
