South View has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Seventy-First Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, South View beat Jack Britt 57-49. With that win, South View brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.
South View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zakiera Gaillard out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gaillard pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Blue, who scored five points along with 21 rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Seventy-First entered their tilt with Lumberton with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Seventy-First came out on top against Lumberton by a score of 63-54 on Friday.
Seventy-First's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alani-Skye Wilkerson, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wilkerson scored 15 or more points. Mariyah Massey was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
South View has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Seventy-First, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7.
South View was able to grind out a solid victory over Seventy-First in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 60-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for South View since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
