The NorthWood Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies at 5:29 p.m. on Friday. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
NorthWood gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Mishawaka.
Ana Beachy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Victoria Vega was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Brooklyn Davis also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Plymouth and Wawasee had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pilgrims/Rockies put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 18-5 victory on Wednesday.
Gracie Patrick made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Patrick was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lexi Pike, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Gracie Kruyer was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Plymouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wawasee only posted an OBP of .367.
The win got NorthWood back to even at 6-6. As for Plymouth, their record now sits at 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. NorthWood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Plymouth struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
NorthWood couldn't quite get it done against Plymouth when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
