Clover went across the state line to find a new football coach, as the school has hired John Devine as its new coach, according to the Rock Hill Herald.
Devine has been at South Point High School in Belmont, N.C., for 15 years compiling a 137-55-1 record. He won state titles in 2003 and 2009 and has captured 10 conference championships. His team went 9-4 last fall and won the Big South 3A conference title.
"We had a good run (at South Point)," Devine told the paper, "but it was time to get out of my comfort zone. It's time for a new challenge in my life. Clover is a good fit."
He told the paper that he didn't plan to change Clover's Wing-T attack, but might add a little option to the mix.
Devine will replace Jet Turner, who stepped down to become the coach at Wilson Hall in his hometown of Sumter.
"Coach Devine's record, the success he has achieved, and the program he has built at South Point High School is tremendous," athletic director Carroll Hester said to the paper in a news release. "We look forward to coach Devine's leadership, his passion, and his desire to help Clover remain at the top."

BULLDOGS WIN FIRST SPARTANBURG COUNTY GOLF TITLESpartanburg may be known as a good spot for golf, but the county has never hosted a championship for its high schools — until this year.
The
Boiling Springs (Spartanburg) Bulldogs won the county championship on their home course by five strokes over Dorman. Three Bulldogs — Trevor Phillips (72), Dillon Stevens (73) and Landen Hamrick (76) — were named to the all-county team.
"We're tickled to death," Boiling Springs coach Rick Tate told the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. "Anytime you can beat a team like Dorman, you've had a good day. We'll go back to our nine-hole matches now and then to the region and then you just try to go as far as you can play. We're excited about it."
The individual winner was Brad Thorne of
Oakbrook Prep (Spartanburg). Thorne shot 70 on the course and was the only golfer to break par.
