Mayco Morales put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Buckeye is 3-1 when Morales posts two or more runs, but 1-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, David Castaneda was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Adrian Fierro was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Canyon View had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Vipers. The one-run effort marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Landon Hood, who gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Verrado off the board. Hood has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Canyon View saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max King, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Canyon View pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Buckeye, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Buckeye suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Canyon View in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
