The DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Colorado Academy by a score of 66-58. The victory was all the more spectacular given DSST: Green Valley Ranch's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Colorado Academy is ranked 14th).
DSST: Green Valley Ranch's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jovonnie Babineaux, who scored 20 points along with six assists and two steals. Babineaux hasn't dropped below 17 points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Shalom Abioye, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Colorado Academy still got an impressive performance from Clyde Love, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Love has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of George Buyers, who scored 14 points.
DSST: Green Valley Ranch's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Colorado Academy, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 16-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DSST: Green Valley Ranch won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against STEM School Highlands Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. One thing working in DSST: Green Valley Ranch's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games. As for Colorado Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Peak to Peak at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Colorado Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
