BEND, Ore. -
Wilsonville (Ore.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 24 in Oregon, but was stunned by
Mountain View (Bend, Ore.), 21-14. Mountain View was ranked at No. 37 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Oregon coming into the week.
The Cougars were up 7-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Kyler Ayers in the second quarter.
Mountain View led by as many as 14 points before the Wildcats cut into the final margin.
MV's most effective player was Ayers. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 24 touchdowns on the season.
Wilsonville's
Nick Highberger played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.
The Bend school came in allowing an average of 25.7 points per game this season. The Cougars held firm on the defensive front, and kept WHS well below the 41.2 points it had been averaging per game.
The loss snapped the Wildcats' 2-game winning streak. With the win Mountain View extended its winning streak to three games.
