The New Fairfield Rebels will head out to challenge the Immaculate Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, New Fairfield turned things around against Joel Barlow on Tuesday. They blew past the Falcons 16-10. Considering the Rebels have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Immaculate ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 13-10 win over Stratford. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won six in a row.
Maddie Costa made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over ten innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Cooper, who fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Norah Whitmore was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Immaculate lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
New Fairfield's record is now 9-10. As for Immaculate, their record now sits at 6-12.
New Fairfield got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Immaculate by a conclusive 14-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
