Chester extended the longest winning streak in Black Diamond this week by beating Fairfield, 42-14. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Yellowjackets.
Sesser-Valier/Waltonville/Woodlawn moved up to 453 from 481 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Red Devils were able to make the jump by defeating Elverado/Trico 46-0.
Chester's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Cowan threw for 69 and one touchdown and Caleb Arbeiter had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Stephen Roth chipped in 90 yards. Boyd Miles helped Chester's passing attack out by catching two balls for 23 yards.
Bryan Lee's team's Cowan and Arbeiter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cowan has thrown for 635 yards this season, while Arbeiter, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 18 catches for 375 yards. Dyllan Bailey from the Mules leads the league in rushing with 911 yards.
Bailey of the Fairfield is only 89 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in Black Diamond this week will be when Johnston City takes on Vienna/Goreville. As it stands, the Indians are in third, while the Eagles are in second.
Carmi-White County and the Bearcats played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Carmi-White County eventually emerging with a 30-24 victory.
