You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Sylmar Spartans's strategy against the Kennedy Cougars on Friday. Sylmar walked away with an 81-69 victory over Kennedy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sylmar found their leader in underclassman Joseph Dickson, Jr, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and three steals. Gustavo Lopez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Sylmar's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-13. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.5 points per game. As for Kennedy, their defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-10.
Sylmar won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Manual Arts at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. Manual Arts knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Sylmar likes a good challenge. As for Kennedy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Reseda at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Reseda has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 250 points over their last four matches.
