San Rafael lost to Piner back in October of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Bulldogs blew past the Prospectors 34-14. Considering the Bulldogs have won four contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
San Rafael's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lachlan Royston led the charge by throwing for 178 yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one rushing score. Royston's passing game has become a key predictor of the Bulldogs' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Royston's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to Derek Dugan, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
San Rafael pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.3 points over those games. As for Piner, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. San Rafael will face off against rival Novato at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th. Meanwhile, Piner is set to square off against their familiar foe Terra Linda at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
