The Nuniwarmiut Herders lost against the Nelson Island Islanders back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Nuniwarmiut was outmatched by Nelson Island at home and fell 98-43. Nuniwarmiut was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-22.
Several Herders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Williams, who scored ten points. Keynon Weston was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Nelson Island's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charles Maxie led the charge by scoring 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennan Lincoln, who scored 21 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Nuniwarmiut and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Nelson Island, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Nuniwarmiut will be playing at home against Chief Paul Memorial at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Chief Paul Memorial is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Nelson Island, Nelson Island and Ayaprun will face off at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
