Basketball Recap: Deltona Comes Up Short

Deltona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 78-73 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pine Ridge Panthers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (62), the Wolves still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Deltona lost, don't look at Xavier Cerrud. Despite the final result, he posted 27 points along with six boards and five assists. With that strong performance, Cerrud is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tim Mccarthy, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Deltona smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Pine Ridge was led to victory by Kadin Pierce-Flores and Henry Robinson Jr. Pierce-Flores went 6 for 9 en route to 17 points and seven assists, while Robinson Jr went 11 of 25 on his way to 26 points. Robinson Jr has been hot, having posted 19 or more points the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Anthony Tedesco, who scored four points in addition to ten boards and eight assists.

Deltona's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Pine Ridge, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-10.

Deltona wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-48 loss against Matanzas on the 20th. As for Pine Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-71 defeat against New Smyrna Beach on the 18th.
