North Providence suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a bye. The Cougars had been ranked 22nd, but fell to 27.
Mt. Pleasant extended the longest winning streak in Division IV this week by beating Scituate, 48-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Kilties.
Albert Robinson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 211 yards as Hope fell to North Smithfield. Delonce Wright also contributed to the rushing game with 163 yards on the ground.
Brandon Canuto put up the best numbers through the air as Central Falls lost to the Blue Wave. He finished with a total of 16 completions for 187 yards and one touchdown. Canuto's favorite target this week was Kenuel Lopez, who caught six passes for 68 yards.
Alves-Southern was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights fell to the Northmen. Alves-Southern racked up four receptions for 73 yards. Timmy Badejo helped Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex's passing attack out by catching one ball for 13 yards.
Providence Country Day/Wheeler/Sanchez Complex's Marquis Harper, Jr. and Alves-Southern have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Division IV in both passing and receiving yards. Harper, Jr. has thrown for 943 yards this season, while Alves-Southern, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 27 catches for 682 yards. Wright from Hope leads the league in rushing with 1108 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Smithfield takes on Mt. Pleasant. At the moment, the Sentinels are in third, while Paul Rao's team is in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Smithfield takes on the Kilties. Christopher Branch's team has allowed 110 points this season, while Mt. Pleasant has given up 75.
The Kilties made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,248 from 7,893. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 48-14 victory over the Spartans last week.
