5A Region III District 22 recap December 3, 2013
Manvel added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 22 this week by beating Memorial, 49-21. The victory was the 11th in a row for the team.
Pearland scaled the state rankings by moving to 35 from 65 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Oilers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Lamar 21-13.
Pearland's dynamic duo of Connor Heath and Carter Jefferson proved to be unstoppable against the Redskins, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Heath threw for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns and Jefferson had 93 yards receiving. JaColbie Butler helped Pearland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 84 yards.
D'Eriq King was a passing and rushing force as Manvel beat the Mustangs. He completed 16 passes for 187 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 73 yards. King's key target this week was Reggie Hemphill, who caught 4 passes for 87 yards.
Kirk Martin's team's King and Gary Haynes have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback King has thrown for 2,472 yards this season, while Haynes has 46 catches for 812 yards. Tony Heath's team's Butler leads the league in rushing yards with 1,428.
The Mavericks took down Memorial 49-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. King ran for 73 yards in the win.
