Andover is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Stillwater is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Huskies will welcome the Ponies at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Andover 4, Stillwater 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Andover is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Champlin Park just ended the team's 12-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 16-11 to the Rebels. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Huskies, who until this contest were averaging 3.95 runs allowed.
Andover got a massive performance out of Avery Stock, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Clough, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Stillwater faced Rogers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Ponies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Royals, sneaking past 4-2.
Ella Weisser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
At the plate, Stillwater's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mila Lobinsky, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Stillwater's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Andover, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Andover hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Stillwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
