Baseball Recap: Interlachen Wins Going Away Against Matanzas

Interlachen made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Matanzas, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Interlachen was the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Matanzas on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rodney Blackwelder was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Interlachen let Devon Williams and Miles Hoffman run wild. Williams scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4, while Hoffman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Williams has become a key player for Interlachen: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Robert McCumbers, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Interlachen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Matanzas only posted an OBP of .382.

Interlachen is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Matanzas dropped their record down to 1-16 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Interlachen will welcome Crescent City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Interlachen is facing Crescent City at the right time seeing as Crescent City is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Matanzas, they will be playing at home against Seabreeze at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Matanzas will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Seabreeze will have lost four straight heading into Friday's match.
