Baseball Recap: Northern Potter Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Northern Potter had lost eight games at home dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 3-8 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They beat the Smethport Hubbers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 15-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-5 on Wednesday.

Northern Potter got a massive performance out of Gaige Hohenwarter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Hohenwarter is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Bliss, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

As for Smethport, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-8. Those road losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Smethport's side, Colin Riekofsky put in work no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Riekofsky was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cole Burdick and Zach Hungiville stepped up to the plate in a big way. Burdick went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hungiville went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Swanson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Northern Potter will head out to challenge Cowanesque Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Smethport, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cameron County at 4:30 p.m.
