The Sandy Creek Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 53-39 win over Heartland. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sandy Creek also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2017.
Sandy Creek found their leader in underclassman Emma Fisher, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Sophie Dane was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Despite the defeat, Heartland had strong showings from Jamisen Klein, who scored eight points, and Allie Boehr, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emerysn Oswald, who scored three points along with seven assists and two steals.
Sandy Creek's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Heartland, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandy Creek will face off against the Panthers on Tuesday. Hopefully Fillmore Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Heartland, they will head out on the road to take on the Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centennial presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Huskies in Nebraska (the Broncos are ranked 103rd, while the Huskies are ranked 241st).
