The Bennington Badgers entered their tilt with the Mercy Monarchs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Bennington really took it to Mercy for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-39 win at home. Fans of Bennington have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Leading Bennington to victory were Presley Baca and Skylar Johnson. Baca scored 15 points along with 3 blocks, while Johnson scored 17 points. The matchup was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Robinson, who scored 8 points.
Despite the loss, Mercy saw an underclassman step up: Madisyn Grzebielski scored 16 points along with 3 steals. Grzebielski scored a full 41% of Mercy's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Gallagher, who scored 9 points.
Even though they lost, Mercy were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bennington only racked up 22.
Bennington's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Mercy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Bennington will head out on the road to face off against Elkhorn North at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mercy, they will be playing at home against Ashland-Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
