Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Chaminade-Madonna walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 40-0 victory over the Crusaders at home. Chaminade-Madonna might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Davion Gause went supernova for Chaminade-Madonna, rushing for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Gause was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedrick Bailey, who threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns.
Chaminade-Madonna's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Zach Crothers and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll's offense rose to the challenge against a Titans defense that boasted an average of only 13.42 points allowed. Archbishop Carroll narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past True North Classical Academy 38-35.
Archbishop Carroll's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alejandro Isaza, who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Isaza hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Sylus Villanueva, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Chaminade-Madonna to 12-0 and Cardinal Newman to 9-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Chaminade-Madonna has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 198.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Carroll struggles in that department as they've been even better at 369.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
