Softball Recap: Evangel Christian Wins Going Away Against Heritage Christian Academy

After only two runs in their last game, Evangel Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday. The Evangel Christian Lightning were the clear victor by a 19-9 margin over the Heritage Christian Academy Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Lightning, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Evangel Christian got a massive performance out of Gracelynn Shackelford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Shackelford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makayla Cranford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

Evangel Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Heritage Christian Academy is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will challenge Southern Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.4 runs per game on average), something Evangel Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. Heritage Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North River Christian at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st.
