Cascade and Speedway are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cadets will face off against the Sparkplugs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cascade is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games.
Cascade is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They put the hurt on Owen Valley with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Cadets have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Gray made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Caitlin Gryszowka was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since May 1st. Ava Allen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Speedway's offense. They came up short against Triton Central on Thursday, falling 6-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Sparkplugs were not able to get on the board.
Speedway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallory Short, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Speedway and nudges their season record down to 5-9. As for Cascade, their record now sits at 19-5.
Speedway's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cascade has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. It's a different story for Speedway, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain Cascade's hitters?
Cascade took their victory against Speedway in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
