Poth is 8-1 against Nixon-Smiley since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pirates will take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Poth has seven straight victories, Nixon-Smiley has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Poth got the win against Luling by a conclusive 14-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kason Band and Jacob Clark were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Band pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Clark pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Band has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Band went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Clark went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Clark has posted since back in February.

Poth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Luling only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley fell victim to Karnes City and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Badgers. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mustangs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Poth's record now sits at 19-6. As for Nixon-Smiley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
Everything went Poth's way against Nixon-Smiley in their previous matchup back in March, as Poth made off with a 9-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
