With a playoff game on the line, the Lake Howell Silver Hawks rose to the challenge on Thursday. They strolled past the Greyhounds with points to spare, taking the game 67-53. Given Lake Howell's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Lyman is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake Howell was led to victory by Mason Fritz and Janiel De los santos. Fritz dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, while De los santos scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. De los santos is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaydon A. Samuels, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Despite the loss, Lyman still got an impressive performance from Max Mattingly, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. Mattingly has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Jamarius Joyner was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Lake Howell is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Lyman, their loss dropped their record down to 9-18.
Lake Howell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-36 loss vs. Oviedo on the 10th. Lyman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
