Baseball Recap: Pennsville Memorial Extends Winning Streak to Three

After only two runs in their last contest, Pennsville Memorial made sure to put some runs up on the board against Wildwood on Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 22-3 margin over the Warriors. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Chase Burchfield made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Logan Streitz was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jeff Wagner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.

Pennsville Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wildwood only posted an OBP of .320.

The win was the third in a row for Pennsville Memorial, bringing their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wildwood, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pennsville Memorial will welcome Millville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wildwood, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cape May County Tech at 12:00 p.m. The Warriors are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
