VISFA Tidewater recap October 29, 2013
Bishop Sullivan Catholic extended the longest winning streak in VISFA Tidewater this week by beating Hampton Roads Academy, 62-6. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
The Navigators lost to Bishop Sullivan Catholic 62-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Quincy Mock threw for 23 yards and ran for 46 yards in the defeat.
David Gough was a passing and rushing force as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy defeated Trinity Episcopal. Gough's key target this week was John Mobley, who caught 3 passes for 66 yards.
Jackson DeMello threw for 99 yards and 3 touchdowns.
DeMello and Gough gave the Saints a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Addison Peak also contributed to the rushing game with 167 yards on the ground.
Hampton Roads Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Navigators feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Duncan Wingfield has thrown for 868 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Trey Critides has 28 catches for 740 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Bishop Sullivan Catholic takes on second place Norfolk Academy. Carl Turner's team defeated Bryce Kiser's team last week, while Norfolk Academy fell to Collegiate.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Navigators and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy face off next week.
There should be lots of points scored when Hampton Roads Academy and Lew Johnston's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Navigators comes in having scored 321 this season, while the Saints have scored 400. Hampton Roads Academy scored 6 points last week as it lost to the Crusaders.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,698 from 4,861. The advance stemmed from a 58-29 victory over the Titans last week.
