The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Manti out 45-43. Given Maple Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Manti is ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jaynee Tanner continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Brown, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Cadee Alder and June Olsen certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Alder scored 18 points along with three steals, while Olsen scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Olsen is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played.
Maple Mountain's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. As for Manti, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will take on Springville at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Springville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday. As for Manti, they will play host again and welcome Juab, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
