The Auburndale Bloodhounds will take on the Sarasota Sailors in a tournament on Friday.
Auburndale managed to slip by Lake Minneola the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Auburndale lost 7-1 to Lake Minneola on Tuesday. The Bloodhounds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ailenid Lozada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Auburndale saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brylyn Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That run marked the first that Miller scored this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sarasota). They never let Braden River get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Tuesday. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Ashlan Guengerich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Mady Pint was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Gianna Williams was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
Sarasota always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Braden River only posted an OBP of .000.
Auburndale's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Sarasota, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Auburndale came out on top in a nail-biter against Sarasota when the teams last played back in March of 2022, sneaking past 2-1. Will Auburndale repeat their success, or does Sarasota have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
