Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) senior receiver
Kyle Sweet recorded a school record with 16 catches in Friday's 21-10 win over Dorsey at Saddleback College in Walnut.
But out of all of them, everyone was talking about the Hail Mary catch he made right before halftime, on a 45-yard bomb from quarterback
K.J. Costello.
Costello evaded a rush and fired into a mass of 10 different players, seven on the defensive side. The ball bounced off a teammate and a defender before Sweet came down with it and stumbled into the end zone.
Sweet is a 6-foot, 185-pound senior and a great athlete. He played some quarterback his sophomore and junior year. He entered Friday's game with 15 catches for 234 yards and a touchdown. Last season, he 51 catches for 909 yards and nine touchdowns.
Santa Margarita improved to 3-0 and Friday travels to
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), ranked eighth in the country.
