The Sanderson Spartans waltzed into their match on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Enloe by a score of 53-41. Given Sanderson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Eagles are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sanderson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Patrick Dalton led the charge by scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds. Dalton is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Gordie Balas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gift Moses, who scored 15 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Pedersen, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Sanderson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Enloe, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sanderson will take on the Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Enloe, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Capitals at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Broughton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
