The Phoenix Christian Cougars will square off against the Camp Verde Cowboys at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Phoenix Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 16.1 runs per game this season.
Phoenix Christian came up short against Round Valley on Saturday, falling 13-6. The Cougars have struggled against the Elks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Hannah Fisher made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Guerrero, who scored a run and stole two bases.
Meanwhile, Camp Verde came tearing into Thursday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Coyotes.
Aislynn Mulcaire spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reagan Statler was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Camp Verde's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.7 runs over those games. As for Phoenix Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Phoenix Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Camp Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Phoenix Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Camp Verde in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 10-8. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
