Northview and Clay are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Northview will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
It was a proper cat-fight when Northview challenged Maumee on Tuesday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 6-2.
Northview got a great performance from Graham Newnham as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Newnham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charlie Paulson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Colin Tomanski was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Northview hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Clay beat Oak Harbor 5-1 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
George Edwards looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Landon Eversman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jacob Weseman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Northview's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Clay, their record is now 15-9.
Northview suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to Clay in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
