The White Station Spartans will venture away from home to take on the St. Benedict at Auburndale Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Benedict at Auburndale took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on White Station, who comes in off a win.
Last Monday, everything went White Station's way against Memphis Central as White Station made off with an 11-1 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Townsend Buring and Henry Lomax made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Buring tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Lomax struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Buring went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Lomax scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave Lomax a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Demarcus Covington, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Benjamin Mendez, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
White Station always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Memphis Central only posted an OBP of .391.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Thursday. St. Benedict at Auburndale lost 10-0 to Evangelical Christian. St. Benedict at Auburndale hasn't had much luck with Evangelical Christian recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
St. Benedict at Auburndale's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for White Station, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
White Station skirted past St. Benedict at Auburndale 8-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for White Station since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
