Pine is 9-1 against Berean Christian since September of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Knights will challenge the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m.
Pine is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Edward's just ended the team's five-match winning streak last Wednesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 25-18 in the first set.
Pine started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Berean Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Morningside Academy on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Berean Christian had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-11, 15-7.
Berean Christian's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Pine, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.
Everything went Pine's way against Berean Christian in their previous meeting back in August, as Pine made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
