Softball Recap: Ravenna Has No Trouble Against Cloverleaf

Ravenna's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Cloverleaf Colts. The result was nothing new for the Ravens, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jocelynn Smallwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ravenna let Mallory Sterba and Whitney Holmes run wild. Sterba got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run, while Holmes got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Holmes has posted since back in May of 2024. Kasey Sterba was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Ravenna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ravenna is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cloverleaf, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ravenna will challenge Firestone at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cloverleaf, they will venture away from home to challenge Field at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Colts surely won't give up without a fight.
