The Bluffton Bobcats will face off against the May River Sharks at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Bluffton is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Bluffton barely beat Colleton County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Bluffton was the clear victor by a 13-1 margin over Colleton County on Friday. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.
James Bazzel tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bluffton is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Wolfe, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bluffton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dawson Kunze, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Bluffton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for May River, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Fairview on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sharks have posted since April 16, 2024.
Jaret 'Talon' Putnam looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, May River saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Van Esselstyn, who scored a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Van Esselstyn a new career-high. Gustavo Gomez was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Bluffton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for May River, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Bluffton skirted past May River 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Bluffton repeat their success, or does May River has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
