The Pittsburg Pirates will challenge the Freedom Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pittsburg will be strutting in after a victory while Freedom will be coming in after a loss.
Pittsburg took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Acalanes, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Pittsburg sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Acalanes on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 28, 2024.
Pittsburg was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 15-11.

Pittsburg's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Angel Lozano De La Cruz, who had 11 digs and two aces, and Jessiah Ozuna, who had 27 digs and three assists. The dominant performance gave Ozuna a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Angel Garcia, who had 16 assists and nine digs.
Meanwhile, Freedom suffered their biggest loss since March 6th on Tuesday. They came up short against Liberty, falling 3-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost seven in a row.
The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-19.
Freedom's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Pittsburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-10 record this season.
Everything went Pittsburg's way against Freedom in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Pittsburg made off with a 3-0 win. Will Pittsburg repeat their success, or does Freedom have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
