On Friday, the Churchill County Greenwave faced the Fernley Vaqueros in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Churchill County was beaten by Fernley 53-24. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Churchill County in their matchups with Fernley: they've now lost eight in a row.
Zoey Jarrett was Churchill County's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Madasyn Moyle held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Leading Fernley to victory were Taylor Tollestrup and Kaiserita Otuafi. Tollestrup scored 13 points along with four blocks, while Otuafi scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Nadia Velazquez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Churchill County's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Fernley, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-1.
Churchill County will head out on the road to take on South Tahoe at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Churchill County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday. As for Fernley, they and Lowry will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lowry is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
