The Washington Hatchets will face off against the South Spencer Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Washington has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Washington needed a bit of extra time to put away North Knox. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Warriors. The victory continues a trend for the Hatchets in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won six in a row.
Layton Welsh spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Washington is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Washington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Wright, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Wright a new career-high.
Meanwhile, South Spencer came up short against Evansville Memorial on Monday and fell 7-3. The Rebels have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Ty Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ty Mattingly, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Washington pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three runs across that stretch. As for South Spencer, they now also have a losing record of 7-8.
Washington came out on top in a nail-biter against South Spencer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Hatchets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
