Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Derry). Everything went their way against the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions on Wednesday as they made off with a 9-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Trojans: when they faced off against the Golden Lions on Tuesday, they had to take a 8-0 defeat.
Cason Long made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Derry is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-7 otherwise. Long was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Derry got a great performance from Jayden Struble as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those two stolen bases gave Petrosky a new career-high. Mason Fridley was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Derry moved to 5-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Greensburg Salem, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
