Softball Recap: Mater Bay Academy Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Mater Bay Academy had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They never let the Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Wednesday. The Rays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Paiten Mclaughlin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Mclaughlin was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jarilynn Romero was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Katlynn Figueroa was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Mater Bay Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mater Bay Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Immaculata-La Salle, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11.

Looking ahead, Mater Bay Academy will venture away from home to take on Key West at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rays' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Conchs have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. Immaculata-La Salle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
