Westview has been on the road for five straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Kearney Bearcats at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.
Westview suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Omaha South by a score of 44-41.
Despite the defeat, Westview saw an underclassman step up: Stella Williams scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Williams continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Ross, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
After soaring to a 37-point victory in their last game, Kearney came back down to earth on Saturday. They fell just short of Beatrice by a score of 61-58. While losing is never fun, Kearney can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Beatrice is ranked tenth).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kennidy Garner, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Sophie Glandt was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Westview bumped their record down to 3-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Kearney, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.
