Chequamegon hasn't had much luck against Stratford recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 4:45 p.m. Chequamegon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Chequamegon came up short against Rib Lake and fell 10-7.
Jalen Brunell made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Stratford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Auburndale on Thursday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted against the Eagles since May 30, 2023.
Tria Tubbs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Tubbs was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Pankratz, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1 stolen bases per game. Dakota Knetter was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Stratford is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Chequamegon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chequamegon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Stratford struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chequamegon suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Stratford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
