The Mathis Pirates lost against the Aransas Pass Panthers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Mathis took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aransas Pass.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savion Nixon, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brandon Reed, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Mathis' loss dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Aransas Pass, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-16.
Mathis will be playing in front of their home fans against Taft at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mathis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Tuesday. As for Aransas Pass, they will head out on the road to square off against Odem at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Aransas Pass is coming into the contest with four straight wins on the road, so Odem is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
