Wellington has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Clearview Clippers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Wellington is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Clippers in Ohio (the Dukes are ranked 325th, while the Clippers are ranked 672nd).
In what's become a running theme this season, Wellington gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 52-20 win over Brookside at home. Wellington pushed the score to 48-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wellington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brooke Lehmkuhl, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Jerousek, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Clearview came into Friday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Oberlin by a score of 40-27 on Friday. The victory was just what Clearview needed coming off of a 63-19 loss in their prior match.
Wellington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Clearview, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-13.
Everything came up roses for Wellington against the Clippers when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 55-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wellington since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
