Two dominant guards in Johnny Hudson and Marcus Browder are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Calumet New Tech Warriors will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Hammond Central Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Calumet New Tech is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Calumet New Tech was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 61-55 to Boone Grove.
Despite the loss, Calumet New Tech got top-tier performance from Hudson, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Javon Lawerence, who posted eight points and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Calumet New Tech was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Hammond Central didn't have quite enough to beat Lake Central on Tuesday and fell 55-53. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Calumet New Tech will need to focus on slowing down Gregory Dotson, one of several Hammond Central players who made an impact when they last played. He went 7-for-11 on his way to 15 points. Dotson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last seven games he's played. Cylin Pointer was another key player, putting up ten points.
Hammond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Calumet New Tech, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 8-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Calumet New Tech has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Hammond Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
