Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Refugio's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Refugio won the last time they faced Pettus and things went their way on Monday too. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 17-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Refugio got a massive performance out of Mattew Perez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Perez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zander Wills, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Refugio was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Refugio is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Pettus, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Refugio will welcome Port Aransas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Marlins will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Bobcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pettus, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Woodsboro at 6:00 p.m. on the 25th.
